Zambia Army’s Support for Women in Sports
The Zambia Army, through its Deputy Director General of Sports, Colonel Priscilla Katoba, played a pivotal role in facilitating Shamalime’s employment. Katoba, who also serves as the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Women’s Representative, reaffirmed the army’s commitment to empowering female athletes and ensuring they have a sustainable future beyond their playing careers.
“The Zambia Army recognizes the immense contribution of women in sports, and we are delighted to offer Lydia Shamalime this opportunity. It is our hope that this will inspire other young female footballers to pursue excellence in both sports and personal development,” Katoba stated.
Call for Corporate Support
Katoba also took the opportunity to appeal to the corporate world to extend financial and material support to talented young athletes like Shamalime. She emphasized that investment in women’s football is crucial for the continued growth and success of the sport in Zambia.
“We urge the corporate sector to come forward and support young women in football. Many of these players face significant financial challenges despite their talent and dedication. Sponsorship and employment opportunities will go a long way in uplifting their lives,” she added.
A Bright Future Ahead
With this employment, Shamalime not only secures financial security but also gains a platform to further develop her football career. She remains determined to continue representing Zambia at the highest level and dreams of playing professional football internationally.
