ZAMBIA AND MOZAMBIQUE STRENGTHEN TIES WITH NEW BORDER AGREEMENT AND ENERGY COOPERATION

Zambia and Mozambique have reaffirmed their long-standing friendship with renewed commitments in trade, energy, and regional peace.

During official talks held in Lusaka, Presidents Hakainde Hichilema and Daniel Francisco Chapo emphasized the importance of collaboration in key sectors, including power generation, border facilitation, and security cooperation.

President Hichilema expressed gratitude to Mozambique for its continued support in energy supply, noting that without this partnership, Zambia’s power situation would have faced major disruptions.

He also underscored the importance of peace and stability in driving shared prosperity, acknowledging Zambia’s role in supporting Mozambique’s efforts to combat terrorism and promote regional security under SADC.

And President Chapo hailed Zambia’s assistance in fighting terrorism and announced new joint initiatives to boost economic integration including the signing of the Chanida and Kasakatiza One Border Stop Agreement to enhance the smooth movement of people, goods, and services.

He has outlined Mozambique’s ambitious energy and infrastructure projects, expected to generate over 1,000 megawatts of power and strengthen transmission links with Zambia.

President Chapo has since invited President Hichilema for a reciprocal visit to Mozambique, marking yet another milestone in the two nations’ enduring partnership.
