The World Bank has advised the Zambian government to be clear on its investment strategy and the reasons for participating in running state owned Enterprises.

Speaking at the launch of the 2024 Zambia Public Finance Review Report, World Bank Senior Economist Albert Pijuan says State Owned Enterprises had between 2018 and 2022 represented an annual fiscal cost of approximately 185 point one million United States dollars between when majority were loss making.

Mr. Pijuan says the underperforming of the state owned enterprises also added to the debt pressure accruing significant liabilities.
