WESTERN COUNCILS WARNED OVER DELAYED ROAD WORKS

.

Western Province Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta has called on local councils to speed up the implementation of the Presidential directive on road construction and maintenance, warning that delays are undermining government efforts.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Mongu, which included Members of Parliament, District Commissioners, Council Chairpersons, Secretaries, the Road Development Agency (RDA), and other provincial leaders, Mbangweta expressed concern over the sluggish or non-existent progress on key road projects.

He noted that despite government investment in earthmoving equipment and the disbursement of road grants, several councils have yet to show meaningful activity on the ground, five months into 2025.

Residents have also voiced frustrations over the poor state of roads, urging local authorities to act swiftly.
