VOTING UNDERWAY IN PAMBASHE

Voting is currently in progress for the Pambashe Constituency by-election in Kawambwa District, Luapula Province, with polling stations opening their doors promptly at 6:00 AM. District Electoral Officer Andrew Bwali confirmed that the voting process commenced smoothly across all designated polling sites, reflecting the efficiency and preparedness of the electoral officials overseeing the event.

A visit by Diamond Media to Chabanya Polling Station just before the official start of voting, at 5:58 AM, observed three early voters already in line, all of whom were men. The early turnout, though modest, is expected to increase steadily throughout the day as more residents make their way to cast their votes.

Pambashe Constituency, characterized by its predominantly farming population, often sees voter turnout peak later in the day, as many farmers attend to their morning agricultural duties before heading to the polls. This trend suggests that participation levels will likely rise in the afternoon and evening hours, contributing to a more robust turnout by the close of voting.

The constituency boasts a total of 20,954 registered voters, comprising 10,894 females and 10,060 males. This balanced demographic underscores the importance of both male and female voter participation in shaping the outcome of the election. Electoral officials have emphasized the significance of every vote, encouraging all eligible citizens to exercise their democratic right.

The by-election is being closely monitored by various stakeholders, including political party representatives, civil society organizations, and independent observers, to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process. Security personnel are also on the ground to maintain order and address any potential disruptions.

As the day progresses, updates on voter turnout and any developments from polling stations across Pambashe Constituency will continue to emerge. The outcome of this by-election is anticipated to play a key role in the political landscape of Kawambwa District and Luapula Province at large.

Residents and stakeholders alike remain hopeful for a peaceful and successful election process that accurately reflects the will of the people.
