A family of four in Mazabuka’s Chibuyu area, all of whom are visually impaired, is appealing for financial assistance to enable them to travel to Zimba District Mission Hospital for medical examinations. The family says a doctor at the facility has assured them of a thorough assessment of their condition.
Speaking to a Diamond News reporter, the mother, Chibanje Molomoka, who is also blind, called for support, expressing hope that medical intervention could improve their condition. She believes that if any of them receive successful treatment, they may regain some independence and even help support others.
Ms. Molomoka explained that the family urgently needs funds for transport to the hospital, as they are currently unable to meet the costs on their own.
One of her children, Buumba Molomoka, who has completed secondary school and undertaken teacher training, also appealed for assistance. She said support at this stage would not only help the family access medical care but also enable her to pursue employment in the future and contribute to their well-being.
According to the family, their visual impairment developed several years ago after a mysterious illness that left them disabled and significantly affected their lives. They added that many relatives have since distanced themselves, leaving them largely dependent on the kindness of neighbours for basic needs such as cooking and food supplies.
