Two of the four patients admitted to Request Muntanga Level One Hospital in Kalomo District say they are still in shock after surviving the consumption of a locally brewed beer known as Chijabbo, a concoction reportedly made from various commercial substances, including fertilizer.
One of the survivors, 32-year-old Proceed Mungeleza, has narrated to Diamond News that the group have been drinking the same brew for some time and could not understand what went wrong this time.
He explains that the batch they consumed had been prepared earlier earlier before the seven decided to drink it while working in the garden.
And Kalomo District Health Director, Dr. Misheck Mukanzu has confirmed that two of the survivors have lost their sight and have since been referred to Livingstone University Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Three people died, while four others were hospitalized on Sunday after consuming the toxic drink in Siachitema Chiefdom, Kalomo District.
