Some street vendors have taken over bus shelters along busy areas such as the Great East Road in Lusaka.

According to an observation undertaken by Diamond Media, vendors have taken advantage of sponsored shelters of different companies to sell their merchandise which have taken over benches meant for commuters.

The act has split opinions among members of the public with some condemning the vice while others say men and women must be left to use such means to earn a living.

Recently President Hakainde Hichilema halted plans to remove street vendors in the Central Business District, a matter that cast mixed feelings over the increasing unsanitary conditions versus the high cost of living.
