.

The University Teaching Hospitals women and Newborn Hospital in Lusaka has recorded 10 new born babies on New Year’s Day.

Speaking when Ministry of health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services presented baby hampers, Women and Newborn Hospital Chief nursing officer Beatrice Mundia says the hospital recorded the 10 new births between midnight and 10 hours today with 6 babies being girls.

And Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Lishimpi is pleased that all 10 babies are planned and not as a result of early marriage or teenage pregnacy and that the Ministry aims to record planned pregnancies and babies in the future for improved mother and child health.

Dr. Lishimpi has also encouraged mothers and pregnant women to avoid alcohol while breastfeeding for the baby’s wellbeing.
