The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has retained the Liangati Ward seat in Senanga District of Western Province, Zambia following a victory in the recent by-election.

Returning Officer Lukonga Musiwa declared UPND candidate Mwiya Mukumbuta winner after polling 725 votes across all four polling stations. He was followed by Ziezi Lutangu of the United Progressive and Peaceful Party of Zambia (UPPZ), who garnered 129 votes, while Lubasi Mwangala of the Leadership Movement (LM) came third with 111 votes.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected councillor pledged to offer inclusive and effective representation to all residents of Liangati Ward.

The by-election was held following the death of former UPND councilor Nyambe Nyambe, who died in a road accident in October 2025.
