UPND-NCP NYIMBA VIOLENCE UNDERMINES CREDIBILITY OF ELECTORAL PROCESS-ECZ

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says Violent Clash that occurred in Kanchenja, Daniel Village of Mtilizi Ward in Nyimba District, Eastern Province during campaigns between United Party for National Development (UPND) and New Congress Party (NCP) undermines the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.

In a statement confirming receipt of the report on the incident that occurred on Tuesday, 8th April 2025, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro has condemned the violent act describing it as criminal in nature.

He has appealed to the Zambia police Service to expeditiously conclude their investigations and bring all the perpetrators of the violence to book.

Following this act, Lundazi District Commissioner (DC) Lufeyo Ngoma was left with a broken leg, Daniel Village headman with a bruised back after alleged severe beatings by the suspects, a house to a Mr. Lungu gutted and properties among them motor vehicles damaged.

Meanwhile, Eastern Province Minister Peter Mumba has confirmed that the Lumezi DC has been evacuated to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka for treatment.
