The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres in Livingstone have been accused of blocking supporters of the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) from attending this year’s Independence celebrations.

PF District Chairperson, Gibson Limbalambala, alleges that the former ruling party was invited to the event but that cadres from the ruling party did not allow them to attend the function.

Other PF officials who commented over the matter have expressed disappointment with the UPND district officials, accusing them of failing to provide leadership as the incident happened in their presence.

Meanwhile, UPND District Chairperson, Christopher Siamwenya, has refuted allegations of his party blocking the former ruling party from the Independence celebrations.

Mr. Siamwenya tells Diamond News that the PF have single handedly opted to shun the commemorations.
