Some first-year students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) on Monday morning staged a peaceful protest for having been left out on the scholarship programme by the Higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board.
The placard carrying students, who made an appeal last year, converged along Independence Avenue to demand answers from authorities.
They have accused management of playing a deaf ear on the matter and also, allegedly, illegally granting loans to unqualified students.
But in an interview with Diamond News, Higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board Senior Corporate Communications Officer, Chiselwa Kawanda has confirmed that the board has received appeals from students who were not considered for student loans for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Ms. Chiselwa however says appeals are only worked on once extra funds are available.
