Lecturers and support staff at the University of Zambia have accused government of failure to settle K600 million in outstanding gratuities and pensions on time.
The lecturers represented by three unions namely the University of Zambia Professional Staff Union – UNZAPROSU, University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union- UNZALARU and University of Zambia and Allied Workers Union – UNZAAWU have since given government a 60-day ultimatum in which to settle the arrears.
According to UNZALARU President Andrew Phiri, efforts to have their dues cleared have hit a snag resulting in reduced morale among staff.
But in an interview with Diamond News, Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary in Charge Of Technical Services, Joel Kamoko, says he is yet to get details of the matter from his directors.
