A 23 year old University of Lusaka student has been sentenced to two years with hard labour for falsely obtaining over K50,000, forgery, and uttering in false documents.
John Nedziwell was arrested in 2022 and charged with 11 counts of obtaining money by false pretences, forgery, and uttering false documents. He was convicted on eight counts.
Mr Nedziwell allegedly used Andrew Mwanza’s National Registration Card NRC to enrol at the university in 2021 and open an Airtel Money account which he used to syphon money.
He also claimed he could facilitate 100 percent scholarship positions for six students at universities in Canada and Germany.
In his Judgement, Magistrate Trevor Kasanda found that the prosecution proved the case, stating that Nedziwell acted dishonestly and knew there was no scholarship.
Magistrate Kasanda convicted Nedziwell on eight counts, sentencing him to two years on six counts and eight months on two counts, to run concurrently.
The court further warned people to protect their personal documents to avoid suspicious transactions.
