Over 190 world leaders have met at the 27th Conference of Parties- COP27 climate summit, in Egypt, with the United Nations warning that humanity must co-operate or perish.

UN chief, António Guterres, says humanity is on the ‘highway to climate hell with foot still on the accelerator.’

Poor countries are pushing for financial compensation from rich countries, responsible for most green house gas emissions.

Guterres called for a pact between the world’s richest and poorest countries to accelerate a shift from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources.

He also called for more rapid delivery of funds to help less affluent nations reduce emissions.

President Hakainde Hichilema is among the heads of states in attendance.
