Two elderly women of Lusaka’s Chipata Maplot area have appeared in court after allegedly expressing ignorance over the illegality of forging National Registration Cards (NRCs) and the theft of more than K5 million.
The accused, Racheal Banda (71) and Trace Ziba (58), have pleaded not guilty to three counts of forgery of NRCs, uttering false documents, and theft involving over K5 million.
Appearing before Chief Resident Magistrate Webster Milumbe, the two women told the court that they were tricked into the alleged forgery and denied stealing the money. They claimed they have never seen the amount in question, apart from K50 they allegedly received from a named company.
According to the charge sheet, the offences were allegedly committed on dates unknown but between March 11 and March 17, 2025, during which the accused are said to have forged NRC number 159303/10/1, uttered false documents, and stolen over K5 million
