Two men have been hospitalized following a brutal attack by suspected criminals in Mazabuka’s Ndeke B Compound, while a third victim escaped unharmed.
The victims, identified as 28-year-old Mfede Chimuka and 27-year-old Kelvin Choongo, were attacked between 20:00 and 21:00 hours as they returned home from work at a local shop.
One of the victims remains admitted at Mazabuka General Hospital, while the other has since been discharged.
Mazabuka Mayor Vincent Lilanda has condemned the slow response from police, noting that the suspects are known in the area and must be arrested without delay. He further accused some officers of colluding with criminals, citing their failure to act on rising incidents of theft and vandalism.
Mayor Lilanda also linked the group to the vandalism of street lights, which he said has further compromised security in the compound.
Central Ward Development Committee Secretary Alex Mutela echoed the Mayor’s concerns, pointing out that parts of Ndeke B have become hotspots for criminal activity, especially at night.
