Two residents of Simoonga Rural Township in Livingstone District, Southern Zambia, have drowned while fishing on the Zambezi River.
Families have identified the victims as Ford Malambo, of unknown age, and Grace Lubasi, 34.
Witness Nalishebo Muhau says she and the deceased set out for fishing on Saturday, July 12, 2025. During the outing, the two individuals requested the witness to remain at a designated spot while they ventured further in search of a better catch.
As they manoeuvred their boat, they encountered a strong current that carried them away.
The witness returned home after hours of not tracing her companions.
Search efforts have been ongoing since Sunday, July 13, 2025, as authorities work to recover the bodies.
Police are yet to issue a statement.
