The Zambia Police Service has recorded two hundred and twenty four road traffic accidents during the Christmas holiday, resulting in twenty eight deaths.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the accidents occurred between Wednesday evening and this morning, with excessive speed being the leading cause.
Mr Chilabi says Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of accidents with eighty cases, followed by Copperbelt Province with forty six cases.
He says the Service collected three hundred and ninety thousand kwacha in admission of guilt fines from nine hundred and two traffic offences recorded during the period.
Mr Chilabi has announced that Police will intensify traffic enforcement and patrols during the New Year holiday following the significant increase in accidents compared to last year’s Christmas period.
