A couple accused of concealing and possessing 51 properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime are facing the said charges because the value of their properties allegedly exceeded their verified sources of income.

In this matter, Charles Mukomena Loyana and his wife Susan are accused of concealing and acquiring the infamous 48 houses which were later said to be 51 properties, at a cost of K37 million in Lusaka’s Chalala area.

An Investigations Officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission ACC, Swithen Lusaka, informed the Economic and Financial Crimes Court that investigations have established that the couple between 2012 and 2017 obtained salaries amounting to over K470, 000 in respect of Mr. Charles Luyana and his wife Susan received over K282, 000.

Mr. Lusaka also says Mr. Luyana obtained loans from the Ministry of finance amounting to K530, 000.

According to the witness, the salaries of the couple and the loan obtained when added together come slightly up to over K1.2 million.

The defense will cross examine Mr. Lusaka on November 12, 2022.
