
At least 667 people have died in road traffic accidents in Zambia between September and December 2025, according to the Zambia Police Service.
Police recorded 10,400 road crashes in the period, including 554 fatal accidents and 856 serious accidents that left 1,776 people seriously injured.
Zambia Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi says 56 of the dead were children, while a total of 385 children were involved in road accidents.
Mr. Chilabi has dislosed that Lusaka Province had the highest number of accidents at 5,515, followed by Copperbelt (1,197) and Central Province (1,091).
He has further added that most accidents were caused by human error, including overspeeding, dangerous overtaking and failure to keep to the nearside.
The report also shows that road accidents rose by 13 percent compared to the same period in 2024, while admission of guilt fines increased to K22.8 million.
