Police in Chinsali District have arrested three teachers of Kenneth Kaunda STEM School in Chinsali District for going against the free education policy by charging pupils for their identity cards.

The teachers are said to have charged 42 pupils K30 each.

Muchinga Police Deputy Commanding Officer, Fred Hamamba, has confirmed the development to Diamond News in Chinsali.

Mr. Hamamba says the three who include acting Headteacher Noah Zimba 49, the school’s mathematics teacher Robert Matipa Mutale, 54, and Alex Nyau, 52, a lab technician have been charged with the offense of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Mr. Hamamba says the arrest follows consultations with the Ministry of Education.

He notes that the behavior sends a negative message to the public that there is no free education when public schools are recipients of school grants.

The trio is expected to appear in court soon.
