
A four-year-old girl is among three people who have died after a Toyota Hiace minibus carrying 28 Jehovah’s Witnesses congregants crashed into parked buses along Nasser Road near Government Complex in Lusaka.
According to police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi,the accident which happened on Saturday morning around 07:00 hours, also left 23 passengers seriously injured and two others with minor injuries.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hiace was allegedly speeding and lost control of the vehicle before crashing into four gates at the Government Complex and later hitting the two parked buses.
The deceased have been identified as four-year-old Gertrude Mwewa of Bauleni Compound, Gratso Mutofwe, aged between 50 and 55 years, and Dominic Choomba, aged between 45 and 50 years.
Their bodies have since been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations.
The driver of the Toyota Hiace sustained head injuries and is admitted to Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, while the injured passengers are receiving treatment at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital and UTH.
The two drivers of the parked Mitsubishi Rosa buses also sustained injuries of an unknown nature.
