Police in Southern Province have recorded three defilement cases in three different districts within the last 24 hours.
This is according to Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka.
In Kazungula District, a four-year-old preschool girl was allegedly defiled by a 26-year-old man identified as Mushaukwa Simasiku of Manazi Village in Sikaunzwe area, Chief Sekute’s chiefdom.
According to police reports, the suspect took advantage of the child after sending his nine-year-old younger brother to charge a phone, leaving him alone with the girl in a kitchen shelter.
In Chikankata District, police have arrested a 21-year-old man, Michael Mainza, for allegedly marrying a 12-year-old girl without consent.
The marriage took place while the girl’s mother was attending a funeral.
Meanwhile, in Itezhi-Tezhi District, police recorded another case in which a 13-year-old girl was allegedly defiled in a bush where she had been working.
