The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has handed over five hundred and seventy-nine thousand (579, 000) seized 25 kilogramme bags of mealie meal to the Copperbelt Provincial Administration worth nine hundred and sixty-five thousand kwacha.
Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Augustin Kasongo says the consignment was impounded at Kasumbalesa border in Chililabombwe District by customs control officers in an operation meant to stamp out smuggling.
And speaking when he addressed the media at his office, Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo says so far about 70 motor vehicles involved in the scourge have been impounded in the province.
Mr. Matambo says government will not spare any form of criminality that is bent on causing food shortages for selfish motives that also lead to tax evasion, hence he has advised cross-border traders to seek legal ways of conducting business.
