The Veterinary Association of Zambia-VAZ has observed a reduction of Aflatoxin deaths in dogs and other animals, days after the national food poisoning scandal surfaced.
Speaking to Diamond News in an interview, VAZ President, Malcom Chiyoba says veterinary clinics have stopped receiving cases of deaths of dogs which were higher a month ago.
Mr. Chiyoba says in response to the panic by pet owners, the association made headway to quarantine over 3,000 bags of Aflatoxin-tainted mealie meal and other animal feed which have since been destroyed by the government.
Meanwhile, due to the crisis that has rocked the staple food, some restaurant owners in Lusaka say news of contamination of various mealie meal brands has affected business because some consumers are fearful of consuming a product whose safety is unknown.
