
The Zambia Police Service has launched an investigation into a brutal murder and aggravated robbery that occurred early today Wednesday morning in Lusaka’s Kasupe area, leaving a 40 year old taxi driver dead.
According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, the incident happened around 07:00 hours and was reported to Matero Police Station at approximately 07:10 hours.
Police officers who rushed to the scene near Sikale Wood Processing Company found the body of a male person lying face down on a gravel road, dressed in a black and cream white T-shirt with white footwear.
A knife stained with blood, a motor vehicle registration plate CAE 9910, and a black KG mobile phone were recovered at the scene, while officers were still at the scene, they received a call on the recovered mobile phone from Grace Chalele, 35, of Kanyama Compound, who identified herself as the victim’s wife. She confirmed that the phone belonged to her husband, Floyd Mulembwe, a 40-year-old taxi driver who operated from Total Service Station in Kanyama.She was later advised to report to Matero Police Station, where she was informed of her husband’s death.
Further investigations have revealed that the deceased had been driving a beige Toyota Vitz, registration number CAE 9910, owned by Francis Chatola, 29, of Makeni ZNS. Mr. Chatola told police that Mulembwe had been employed as a driver for less than a month.
The body has since been taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for a post-mortem examination and police have opened a docket and instituted investigations, and no arrests have been made so far.
