The tailings dam at a copper mining company in Mwense District of Luapula Province belonging to EZED Mining has collapsed, discharging effluents into the stream.
The pollution has led the district administration to halt mining operations while ordering residents to stop consuming fish and water from the stream.
The residents have expressed concern at the disaster, noting that the cassava they soak in the stream, along with various fields, has been destroyed as a result.
