Three Zambians accused of trafficking 29 unknown deceased male Ethiopians have been committed to the High Court for their summary trial.
However, the suspects who have been identified as Jairos Njobvu, Stephen Sitali and Pethius Mayembe still remain in police custody awaiting the hearing of their bail application before the Lusaka Magistrate.
Lawyers say the accused have been in custody since December 2022 without bond, despite being innocent until proven guilty.
In this matter, all the accused are charged with 29 counts of prohibition of trafficking in persons contrary to section 3 (1) (4) of the Anti-Human Trafficking Amendment Act No. 16 of 2022 of the Laws of Zambia.
