
Police in Lusaka have arrested 33-year-old Malaki Shadreck Ngeke of Matero in connection with the abduction and assault of Joe Nyondo, aged 34.
The incident occurred on September 25, 2025, around 13:00 hours at Old Leopards Hill Cemetery, where mourners had gathered for a burial of a resident of Kaunda Square.
According to the police, a grey Toyota Quantum, registration number ADF 6524, carrying about 12 to 16 people some armed with offensive weapons stormed the burial site, causing panic before abducting the victim.
Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says Mr Nyondo was later found at Heroes Stadium, where the suspect, who was driving the vehicle, was apprehended.
He says the victim was issued a medical report at Mandevu Police Post and taken to Chipata Level One Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.
Police have since recovered the vehicle, while a manhunt for the remaining accomplices is underway.
The Zambia Police Service has warned all those involved that the law will catch up with them and has reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and justice.
