Street vending has continued in Lusaka’s Central Business District, following President Hakainde Hichilema’s order to halt the removal of vendors.
A check by Diamond Media in the Central Business Center of Lusaka has revealed that while government is trying to broker a somewhat consultative approach to restore sanity, thousands of traders are operating under life threatening unsanitary conditions.
In reaction to suspended plans to end the illegality, some people are of the view that government must take bold steps and restrict vendors which they say have spread to roads and parking lots which cause mass disorder.
Meanwhile, sources have revealed that talks are underway among stakeholders to find a solution to contain the practice that is common countrywide.
Despite the apparent indecision by state actors on the matter Statutory Instrument Number 18 of 2018 prohibits street vending.
