The suspect who had been on the run after allegedly defiled and murder his 1 year 3 months old step child, was yesterday apprehended by concerned members of the public in an area called Bampu of Pemba District in Southern Province and has since been handed over to the police.
On 14th November 2025, a woman aged 20, of Siamungala Village, Chief Moyo, Pemba District, reported to the police that her baby had died under suspicious circumstances and was strongly suspected to have been murdered while under the care of the step father.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo confirmed the development in his statement.
A postmortem conducted on 17th November 2025 confirmed that the child died as a result of sexual assault, having sustained severe injuries to the genital and anal areas, including internal damage to the uterus, which led to extensive internal bleeding.
