The state wants to have a matter settled out of court in which 30 police officers are challenging the decision to remove them from the payroll system without having paid their terminal benefits.
Solicitor General Marshal Muchende says the resolution to have the matter settled out of court has reached an advanced stage.
Mr. Muchende said this when the Matter came up for hearing before a panel of three Constitutional Court judges on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
In this matter, 30 former police officers including commissioners, superintendent, and detective chief inspectors filed a lawsuit against the state seeking among other reliefs, a court order to keep them on the payroll and pay their salary arrears until they receive their full pension benefits.
President Hakainde Hichilema dismissed the petitioners on September 28, 2022, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the public service number 35(C).
Among the officers include former Police Superintendent Mbita Mpazi.
