The Lusaka Magistrate Court has forfeited the tainted properties belonging to former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo to the state.
Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili has ordered Lusambo to pay K5.2 million to the state, which is the value of the six incomplete flats on the leased land.
Mr. Lusambo had applied for the stay of the forfeiture proceedings of his Chamba Valley properties, citing an interested party, Mukuka Mukonge, who holds the title deeds to the land and will take ownership of the property.
Meanwhile, the court has granted Lusambo K500,000 bail in his own recognizance pending appeal of his three year jail sentence.
The former lawmaker was convicted in August on two counts of possessing property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Mr. Lusambo will continue to serve his four year prison sentence in prison while awaiting the ruling on his bail appeal to the high court.
