Chipata City Council FC’s ambitions of moving up the Zambia Premier National League table have been dented following a goalless draw with Lumwana Radiants at David Kaunda Stadium.
This result represents a second consecutive home draw for the Eastern envoy, a trend that is hampering their progress in the league.
A win would have lifted the team from 10th position, but their inability to finish the numerous chances they created proved decisive.
The home side dominated the match and outplayed Lumwana Radiants for long periods but were unable to score across the 90 minutes.
The Chipata City Council FC head coach Vincent Chisanga attributed the team’s missed opportunities to injuries affecting key squad players but expressed optimism that the team could still qualify for the ABSA cup.
Meanwhile, the Lumwana Radiants head coach Allan Kamwanga praised his team’s resilience in securing a point after undertaking a long journey from Solwezi in the North-Western Province.
In a parallel women’s fixture at the same stadium, Chipata Girls FC were also held to a draw in the Zambia Women’s Premier League.
Chipata Girls thought they had secured a victory after a 90th-minute goal from Esther Mbewe.
However, Kamfinsa Girls scored an equaliser in stoppage time to end the match in a 1-1 draw.
