Players in the mobile money business have bemoaned the intention by Zambia Revenue Authority to devise ways of taxing mobile money transactions to broaden the tax base of the country.
A mobile money operator, Nevers Sinyinza, has told Diamond News that taxing transactions will cripple their commission-based business.
Another operator who sought anonymity says the introduction of the tax on the transaction has a potential of kicking some operators from the business which requires an annual trading permit of over 1, 600 kwacha.
Meanwhile, Mobile Money Business Association President, Pamfred Hasweeka, says there is need to enhance sensitisation on the undertaking by the Zambia Revenue Authority.
