Dozens of heavily armed police officers today raided the home of former President Edgar Lungu and demanded to search the premises for vehicles allegedly stolen by ex-first lady Esther Lungu.
Police have since retrieved a Toyota Runx from the residence and a search for the other two vehicles has continued.
Police are also investigating a case of theft of a certificate of title for a property in Lusaka’s Libala South.
The investigations follow a complaint by a named Elizabeth Chanje Phiri and her daughter that the former First Lady, grabbed their motor vehicles namely a Mitsubishi Canter, Toyota Allex and Toyota Runx.
According to unconfirmed reports, the properties in question were procured using money which the complainant was given to keep for safe custody, a total amount of $400,000 in September 2021.
And Minister of Home Affairs Jack Mwimbu says the search is not politically motivated.
