Mining Expert Edward Simukonda says there is a need for Mopani Copper Mine to start operating so that it raises money to pay off 1.5 billion dollars owed to Glencore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Simukonda adds that taking the route of waiting for Value Added Tax (VAT) returns from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is a long cut that will only prolong financial challenges facing employees and suppliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has urged the government to expedite engagement with Glencore to restore Mopani Copper Mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, President Hichilema in his second speech delivered during his National Assembly Address reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the jobs of the employees at the mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
