The evacuation is out of 33 Zambians that underwent identification and the 11 were people that requested government for help while the 22 will be flown by various institutions they work for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking when she met the evacuees at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Permanent Secretary for Administration, Hope Situmbeko, says the group that includes children and students is a relief on government after Zambia’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia facilitated safe passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the evacuees Dr. Wele Majid has expressed gratitude for the swift action when scores of nationalities were stuck in the war-torn Sudan where clashes are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Majid recounts the traumatic experience of gunfire in the mayhem that took many by surprise over two weeks ago when fighting broke out between the Army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nearly 600 people have died in the clashes caused by rivalry between Army Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo who heads the RSF, the duo disagrees on terms to rule the mineral rich nation that has not been under civilian rule for some time.
