The Consumer Unity Trust Society (CUTS) says the recently approved multi-year tariffs by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) will increase poverty among vulnerable households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CUTS Zambia Consumer Welfare Officer, Victor Sikombe, says many households in the country run small and medium enterprises making it difficult to operate with the tariffs that will be effected on May 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He adds that a minimal number of households are under the first customer category consuming 100 units and below a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Sikombe adds that this will spur the use of unsustainable energy sources in many households across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday, April 21, 2023, the Energy Regulation Board by the Electricity Act Number 11 of 2019, reviewed and approved the application by the power utility company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
