Former vice president Enock Kavindele has urged government to pay former president Frederick Chiluba’s benefits to his family.

Speaking during Mr. Chiluba’s 12th memorial service in Lusaka, Mr. Kavindele says it is important for government to adhere to the laws that protect former presidents.

He says Mr. Chiluba was politically persecuted and all the charges against him were not proved by the state, hence no need to hold on to his benefits.

Mr. Kavindele has further urged government to honor and respect former President Edgar Lungu as the only surviving former head of state.

Mr. Chiluba’s memorial was attended by his family, former president Edgar Lungu and wife, British Ambassador to Zambia Nicolas Woolley and Church leaders.
