Media practitioners across Zambia have converged in the Capital Lusaka for the Media Indaba on Pure Self-Regulation framework (MAPSR).

After the deliberations, the media practitioners are expected to adopt the code of ethics and constitution that will regulate the industry.

MAPSR Chairperson, Kennedy Mambwe, says the media industry is taking advantage of the political will by President Hakainde Hichilema who has on several occasions emphasized on a self-regulation approach.

Earlier, MAPSR Vice Chairperson, Winfred Kunda, said statutory media regulation contradicts the constitution on freedom of speech and expression.

He adds that the statutory media regulation subjects media practitioners to high self-censorship.

The Media Indaba is being held under the theme “building an ethical media that is self-regulated, the panacea for media professionalism in Zambia.”
