The Patriotic Front (PF) has dismissed widespread speculation regarding former President Edgar Lungu’s health, confirming that he is well and currently undergoing a routine medical review in South Africa.
PF ADDRESSES HEALTH RUMORS
Speaking on Diamond TV’s Breakfast Show, PF faction chairman for Information and Publicity, Emmanuel Mwamba, reassured the public that the former Head of State is in good health and not admitted to any hospital, contrary to circulating reports suggesting otherwise.
“President Lungu is not hospitalized. He is in South Africa for a routine medical check-up and is staying in a private apartment, not a health facility,” Mwamba stated.
This clarification comes after social media reports speculated about the former President’s health status, fueling concerns about his well-being.
NO SPECIFIC RETURN DATE ANNOUNCED
When asked about Mr. Lungu’s return date, Mwamba could not provide an exact timeline but assured the nation that the former President would be back soon. He further emphasized that in addition to his medical review, Mr. Lungu is also on holiday, taking time to rest and rejuvenate.
“It is normal for any individual to go for medical check-ups, and the former President is no exception. There is no cause for alarm,” Mwamba added.
LUNGU’S LAST PUBLIC APPEARANCE
The former President’s last public appearance was on January 4, 2024, during a Tonse Alliance press briefing, where he serves as Chairman. Since then, his absence from public engagements has sparked speculation, prompting PF officials to clear the air regarding his whereabouts.
