A family of Lusaka’s Matero East Township is demanding answers from the Zambia Police Service why its eight-year-old son was allegedly put in custody yesterday.
According to sources, the family alleges the boy was detained after he was involved in a fight with a 12-year-old girl.
It is alleged efforts to have the boy released moments after the incident failed because the police refused to release the juvenile until a K1,000 is paid for causing the brawl with a fellow minor or else he would be taken to court.
It is further reported that the girl’s family withdrew the case, but the boy spent a cold night behind bars.
