Police in Chadiza District, Eastern Province, are holding a couple for allegedly whipping a 4-year-old child to death after the child soiled himself.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, the incident occurred on 24th November 2024, when the couple, who had been married for four months, went to the forest to cut trees for charcoal production.
While they were there, the child soiled himself, which angered the stepfather, Daniel Banda (25).
Mr. Banda reportedly used a whip with thorns to beat the child, who became unconscious as a result.
Later in the night, the couple decided to take the child to the hospital, but the child was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Police Commissioner has identified Daniel Banda (25) as the stepfather and Rebecca Phiri (21) as the mother.
