Some traders in Lusaka have bemoaned the high prices of basic commodities which they say is making business unfavorable to run amid a drop in inflation to 9.8 percent in June, 2023.

Leonard Mwansa, a shopkeeper of Kalingalinga Compound makes a 30 kwacha profit from repacking a 25 kilogram bag of mealie-meal.

He adds that the drop in inflation has a minimal impact on the prices of the commodities hence making business unprofitable.

Another trader at Chilenje market, Racheal Chikumbe says the low circulation of money is affecting her business, thereby reducing the prices of her perishable goods.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Economist Dr. Edify Hamukale says the drop in the rate of inflation is an indication of reduced cost of living.
