SPEAKER HAS NO JURISDICTION TO DECLARE SEATS VACANT – PF
Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament have insisted that the Speaker of the National Assembly lacks the authority to declare any parliamentary seat vacant, labeling such actions as unconstitutional.
Lukasha MP George Chisanga criticized the handling of Emmanuel Banda’s case, describing it as a blatant violation of the Constitution.
He argued that such decisions should rest with the Constitutional Court and only after pending legal matters are resolved.
Chisanga questioned why President Hakainde Hichilema has remained silent as the Constitution is allegedly being undermined.
He appealed to the President to intervene and protect the Constitution or, alternatively, suspend it to address the ongoing violations.
Mporokoso MP Brian Mundubile also called on the President to take decisive action, urging him to dismiss Nicholas Phiri instead of waiting for his resignation.
Lunte MP Mutotwe Kafwaya added his voice to the growing discontent within the opposition, further criticizing the perceived lack of adherence to constitutional provisions by the ruling party.
