
Six people have died while two others have been seriously injured following a tragic road accident at Kalweo Market in Kashitu Ward, Masaiti District.
The accident happened around 16:30 hours when a truck, registration number CAH 2301, which was heading towards Kapiri Mposhi from Ndola, lost control and swerved into the market shelter.
According to preliminary information from the scene, the shelter had about 26 people at the time of the incident. While some managed to escape, the truck crashed into the structure, causing it to collapse with 15 people still inside.
Six people died on the spot, two sustained serious injuries, while the rest were reported to have sustained minor injuries.
Masaiti Council Chairperson Andrew Lumano, Area Councilor Ronald K. Zimba, and other local officials are expected to visit the accident scene on Tuesday morning at 09:00 hours to offer solidarity to the affected families.
Meanwhile, police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
