Voting is currently underway in the Shabo Ward by-election in Nchelenge District. The by-election was necessitated by the death of the previous councillor and is being contested by three political parties.
All polling stations opened at 06:00 hours, with Chabilika Polling Station which has the highest number of registered voters at 781 recording a favorable turnout. By 06:43 hours, over 50 people were in the queue, and 17 had already cast their votes (7 male and 10 female).
At Kashishi Polling Station, which has 164 registered voters, no voter was found at the station by 07:10 hours. However, six people had voted since opening , four male and two female.
The Electoral Commission has expressed hope for improved voter turnout across all polling stations as the day progresses.
